A 15-member delegation visited QNLM on October 16, headed by Academician Otmar D. Wiestlerits, President of the Helmholtz Association of German Research Centers. They visited QNLM Exhibition Hall and the Platform for High-Performance Computing and System Simulation before meeting with Pan Kehou, Secretary-General of QNLM Academic Committee. Both parties agreed with President Otmar D. Wiestler to strengthen the cooperation between QNLM and German institutions of Helmholtz Center for Ocean Research Kiel (GEOMAR), Alfred-Wegener Institute for Ocean and Polar Regions (AWI) and Institute for Materials and Coastal Zones (HZG) by jointly establishing laboratories for long-term ocean observation, R&D of marine environment simulation and modeling, data assimilation, ocean and climate change, marine bio-active materials and marine drugs, natural gas hydrate and marine material science. Helmholtz Association will work with QNLM to share experience and expertise on maintaining the research facilities, exchange PhD candidates and technicians, and have the Symposium on Cooperation Strategies in 2017 for more plans of action.
President Otmar D. Wiestler visited China at the invitation of the Ministry of Science and Technology and Chinese Academy of Sciences for the purpose of learning more about China’s science and technology. The delegation boasted four academicians, deans and directors of many research institutions like Helmholtz Association Marine Research Center (Kiel) and the institute of materials and coastal zones (HZG).
